Add Builder questions to a stage

Builder is an interview creation tool that allows you to build effective stages for your interview guides. Builder contains user-friendly tools you can use to access Hirevue's robust library of Builder questions that were created by a team of industrial-organizational psychologists. Builder includes proprietary smart search options that use common, user-friendly search terms for job roles, so you can quickly identify the most effective questions for each stage and add them directly from Builder. Using questions in the Builder library offers you the benefit of increased standardization, consistency, and objectivity across your interview guides and related candidate experiences.
With Builder, you can:
- Search for a role associated with the stage you are adding questions to.
- Use further search filters to narrow your question parameters.
- Add Builder-suggested questions directly to a stage.
Using Builder questions
Builder contains a library of questions you can use to build effective interview guides. When you open Builder to add a question to a stage, you must search for and identify the questions you want to use. You can then select the questions you want to use in the stage and add them directly from Builder.
To search for and add Builder questions
- From the stage you want to edit, select Show Settings > Interview Questions > Open Builder.
- Enter your search criteria in the following fields. At least one field is required.
- Job Role: Common occupational roles associated with the job you are adding questions to. Job Roles are defined when you create a template or job and then used in Builder searches, so you don't have to enter this information again if you have already defined the job. If not, you can still use this field to enter a Job Role you want to find questions for. You can select multiple Job Roles to locate related or cross-functional roles.
- Job Family: High-level categories you can use to narrow your search to specific industries.
- Job Level: Candidate experience level for which you want to find relevant questions for Entry-level, Experienced, and Managerial roles.
- Competencies: Behaviors employees must exhibit to be successful in a job. Competencies are different from job descriptions in that job descriptions are a summary of the skills required for a job, whereas competencies are the behaviors that predict success on the job, such as Communicates Effectively and Works Efficiently. Competency-based questions require a review rating on a 5-point scale.
- Skills & Experience: Specific candidate details you want to associate with the job, such as Customer Service and Leadership.
- When finished entering search criteria, select Next.
- At the top of the page, filter the results by selecting Competencies, Prescreen, or Skills & Experience to view questions tagged with those labels in Builder.
- Builder displays the most relevant questions in each category based on your search criteria, with the most relevant question at the top of each category. Select Show more to see more questions for each search filter.
- Select the questions you want to add, then select Add Questions.

The selected question(s) are added to the stage. Hover over a question to read, re-order, or delete it from the stage.
Note: The content of Builder questions can't be edited. However, once added to an on-demand web/video stage, a question's answer response type can be changed to suit your needs. Questions can't be added directly to Builder, but you can create and store custom questions in your Question Library. For more information, see Question Library.
