Language Hierarchy
Language hierarchy describes the way in which Hirevue decides what supported language to display to users when they are interacting with any of the following application elements:
- Email templates and available field values
- Content in browser experience
- Content of SMS messages
- Subtitles of Hirevue-offered videos
Email Templates and Available Field Values
Email templates specify the email text and merge fields that Hirevue uses when creating system-generated emails. Hirevue uses system-generated emails to communicate with candidates, hiring managers, and interview participants about jobs, interviews, scheduling, reviews, and other application-related activity.
Email templates are comprised of the following:
- Available fields: Variables that contain database information, intended to personalize the email for the recipient. Some available fields can be displayed in multiple languages, while others calculate based on database records and are not translated (for example, job title, candidate name, etc). For example, in the From line of an email template, the merge field ${FromUser.FirstName} contains the first name of the email recipient and is not translated.
- Content: Text that contains the subject and body of the email. If a job-specific language is configured, then Hirevue uses that language to generate content. If not, then Hirevue uses the Default Language licensed for that application to generate email content. For example, email templates for "Interview Invitation - On Demand Video" exist in all supporting languages. When generating emails based on this template, Hirevue uses the template that corresponds to the language specified by the Default Language setting.
For more information about how language settings impact email templates, see Languages and email templates.
Content in Browser Experience
The browser experience refers to application page content that users consume via their web browser (for example, Chrome, IE, or Firefox). Application content is a mix of the following:
- Database information: User-defined data stored in Hirevue. Database information is not translated. Examples of database information include user profiles, candidate information, job information, and scheduling details.
- Language resources: User interface (UI) content, such as column headings, labels, navigation elements, instructional text, and action button labels. Language resources are provided in all supported languages, and are used when generating on-screen content in multiple languages.
To determine which language to use when displaying on-screen content, Hirevue first checks the browser language of the user. If the browser language is a supported language, then Hirevue uses the language resources associated with that language to display on-screen content.
If the browser language is not a supported language, then Hirevue uses the application default language. However, users can set this language to any language supported by their application.
To change the profile language, click the Profile (Name) on the main Hirevue header. The language option that appears is the currently-selected profile language. Click that language to display a drop-down list of supported languages. Select any supported language in the list to change the profile language.
Content of SMS Messages (when SMS messaging is licensed)
Hirevue generates SMS text messages when:
- Conducting on-demand text interviews
- Text apply
- Interview scheduling
If a job-specific language is configured, then Hirevue uses that language to generate content for the SMS text message. If not, then Hirevue uses the Default Language set in Licensing Options to generate the message content.
Subtitles of Hirevue-offered Videos
Hirevue-offered videos are files that Hirevue creates and provides to clients for use in their video interviews. If a Hirevue-offered video has translated subtitles in a supported language, then a CC logo will appear in the lower right corner of the video. Users can click the logo to view a menu of supported languages, where they can choose the subtitles they want to use.
If users select a subtitle in a supported language, then Hirevue plays the video in English and overlays the translated subtitle on the video.
Note: Not every Hirevue video supports subtitles. In addition, custom client videos do not have subtitles by default.
