Create a New Realistic Job Preview
Realistic Job Previews are configurable, multimedia elements that recruiters can incorporate in an on-demand web/video interview to provide candidates with information about the role for which they are interviewing.
You can create a Realistic Job Preview in one of the following ways:
Create a blank Realistic Job Preview
Select Create Realistic Job Preview on the Realistic Job Preview page to create a new Realistic Job Preview with no content. When you select this option, you must add all pages and content from scratch. To begin with a basic framework of editable pages that adhere to the best practices for creating Realistic Job Previews, use the Realistic Job Preview template method described below.
Create a Realistic Job Preview from the Realistic Job Preview template (best practice)
The Realistic Job Preview template is a pre-configured job-preview that you can use as a blueprint for quickly creating new Realistic Job Previews. The Realistic Job Preview template is pre-built with a set of standard pages and associated instructions that HireVue Hire recommends including with all Realistic Job Previews. Hirevue recommends this method as the best practice for creating new Realistic Job Previews.
Create or edit a Realistic Job Preview
To create or edit an Realistic Job Preview
- On the main Hirevue menu bar, click Resources, and then from the drop-down menu select Realistic Job Preview.

If you want to:
Create a new Realistic Job Preview that has no content or pages defined- On the Realistic Job Preview page, select Create Realistic Job Preview.

On the Create Realistic Job Preview page, enter the following:
Realistic Job Preview name (required)Name of the Realistic Job Preview that you are adding.
Tag
Select or type one or more identifiers that classify the Realistic Job Preview. You use tags when filtering Realistic Job Previews by category in the Realistic Job Preview page.
- Select Create Realistic Job Preview. The new Realistic Job Preview opens in the Edit Realistic Job Preview page.
Create a new Realistic Job Preview based on the Realistic Job Preview template- On the Realistic Job Preview page, on the Realistic Job Preview (template), click the action menu (
) and then select Duplicate.

On the Duplicate Realistic Job Preview page, enter the following:
Realistic Job Preview name (required)Name of the Realistic Job Preview that you are adding.
Tag
Select or type one or more identifiers that classify the Realistic Job Preview. You use tags when filtering Realistic Job Previews by category in the Realistic Job Preview page.
- Select Duplicate Realistic Job Preview. The new Realistic Job Preview opens in the Edit Realistic Job Preview page.
- For each page that you want to add to your Realistic Job Preview, select Add Page.
- In the Page Title field, type the title that you want to assign to the Realistic Job Preview, and then click the check mark icon
. This title is internal only, and not visible to candidates.

Select the Edit button at the bottom of the page, and then in the Edit Page Layout pane, configure the following areas:
Title
Type the title that you want to display to the candidate. The title appears directly above the content on the Realistic Job Preview page.
Content
Type or paste text (maximum 500 characters) that you want to appear on the page. This text is overlaid on the image or video that you add to the page. You can either type the content from scratch, or copy text from another document (for example, a Microsoft Word document) and paste it here.
Layout
Select one of four layout options that you want to use for the page, each of which is grouped into either full-width or page-width layouts. The following image displays the four available layouts with the default selected (Full-Width, Text on Bottom).
If you are playing a video that contains audio, then you must select the page-width layout if you want the audio to play. If you select a full-width layout with a video, then the video will play, but the accompanying audio will not.
Background Image or Video
Select the image or video file that you want to display on the page. You can select:
- Image files (.jpg, .jpeg, .bmp, .png, .gif, .tif, or .tiff) sized to a minimum of 1920 x 1080 pixels and no larger than 20 MB
- Video files (.mp4)
Center fromSelect the area of the background image that you want to display when the screen is resized for smaller devices. For example, if you select the center square in the 9-square grid, then when the Realistic Job Preview is displayed on a smaller device, the center of the photo will be displayed, while the outer edges will be hidden from view.
The following image shows the Center From selection area with the default selected (Center, Center). Once you select a focal square, the background image will be displayed in the preview using this setting. When the image is displayed on a smaller screen, the focal point will align with the area of the grid that you selected.
Text color and text background (required)
Define the text color and text background color that you want to use when displaying text on the page. You can click the circle to open the color picker and choose the color that you want to use, or you can type the hex value (#) in the Color field. The default colors for text and background are as follows:
- Text color default: #FFFFF (white)
- Text background color default: #000000 (black) with 50 opacity (transparency)
For better readability, it is recommended that you use white text on dark backgrounds, and black text on light backgrounds. For additional guidance and best practices regarding web text colors and backgrounds, see the website Understanding WCAG 2.0 (not associated with Hirevue).
Transparency
Specify the level of transparency that you want to assign to the background. A value of "0" indicates that the background is fully opaque, while a value of "100" indicates that the background is fully transparent.
Audio
Select an audio file that you want to play in the background. Audio files must be .mp3 or .m4a files no larger than 100MB.
Important: If your video contains audio, then this audio file will overwrite the video's audio.
- Select Save & Close.

Continue adding pages until your Realistic Job Preview is complete. During the edit process, you can also:
Reorder or delete Realistic Job Preview pagesIcons on the top right of the Realistic Job Preview page allow you to reorder or delete Realistic Job Preview pages within your larger flow. Specifically, you can click the:
- Up and down arrows on the top right of each page to reorder the page within the Realistic Job Preview. These buttons are disabled if there is only one page in the Realistic Job Preview.
- Trash can icon to delete the page from your Realistic Job Preview. Deleted pages cannot be recovered. This button is disabled if there is only one page in the Realistic Job Preview.

View your Realistic Job Preview
To view your Realistic Job Preview as a candidate will experience it, choose Preview. The Realistic Job Preview opens in a preview pane, where you can scroll through the pages to view the resulting candidate experience.
Close and finish later
To close the Realistic Job Preview and finish it later, select Save Realistic Job Preview. You can return later to perform further edits, or to publish your Realistic Job Preview.
- To make your Realistic Job Preview available for recruiter selection when building interview stages, in the Publication Status field, select Published and then choose Save Realistic Job Preview. For more information about publication states, see Realistic Job Preview publication status.
