How do I upload a file with international characters?
When uploading candidates to a job, candidate names that contain international characters may not display correctly. This issue occurs if the candidate upload file is encoded in a non-Unicode character set. To correct this issue, the upload file must be converted to a UTF-8 encoded character set.
To convert the upload file using Microsoft Excel 365
- From the Job Summary page, click Add Candidate to Job.
- On the Add Candidate panel, verify that the interview stage drop-down displays the correct stage. If not, select the stage that you want to add candidates to.
- Click Upload File.
- Click the link to Download the template.
- Open the Excel spreadsheet and enter all candidate data.
- When finished, click File > Save As.
- From the Save As window, look to the Save as type drop-down and select CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (.csv).
- Click Save.
Upload this new file to HireVue and any international characters in candidates' names will appear as intended.
To convert the upload file using Microsoft Excel 2016
When saving an Excel file, is the file type CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited) (.csv) missing from the Save as type drop-down? Microsoft's update to Excel 2016 adds this file type to your list of options. Follow the instructions for updating Excel from the Microsoft support website. When the update is complete, follow the instructions above to Convert using Microsoft Excel 365.
